CONSEQUENCES OF DISCRIMINATION

CONSEQUENCES:

Discrimination is not necessarily deliberate. Sometimes it occurs because of long standing habits, values and behaviours which have never been questioned. Whatever our personal biases or prejudices, we need to be aware of their impact on others. It is not just a question of being fairer or more reasonable. Complaints to courts and industrial tribunals have cost organisations money and tarnished reputations.
On an individual level, the consequences could be disciplinary action, demotion, curtailment of promotion opportunities or at the most severe, dismissal. In addition, at an Industrial Tribunal you could be held to be personally liable and as a consequence may have to pay compensation to the complainer.
